An apostille is an official government certification that authenticates a document for use in foreign countries that are members of the Hague Convention. It's essentially an international notarization — it tells another country's government that your document is legitimate. The apostille itself is a certificate attached to your original document, issued by the Secretary of State in the state where the document originated.
Common documents include birth certificates, marriage and divorce certificates, death certificates, educational transcripts and diplomas, corporate documents (articles of incorporation, power of attorney), court documents, and background checks. The document must be an official or notarized copy issued by a recognized government authority.
It depends on the document type. Vital records (birth certificates, marriage certificates) issued by the state are already official government documents and can go straight to apostille. Personal documents, corporate documents, and affidavits typically require notarization first — our Notarization + Apostille Bundle handles this in one workflow.
Standard processing typically takes 5–15 business days depending on the issuing state. Expedited processing is available in most states and can reduce turnaround to 2–5 business days. Processing times are set by each state's Secretary of State office — we cannot expedite beyond what the state offers, but we submit the same day we receive your document.
Apostilles are recognized by all 125+ countries that are signatories to the 1961 Hague Convention. If your destination country is not a Hague member (some Middle Eastern and Asian countries), you may need document legalization (embassy authentication) instead. Contact us and we can advise on the correct process for your destination country.
Every state charges its own fee for issuing an apostille — this goes directly to the state government, not to us. We pass these through at exact cost with no markup. Florida charges $10 per document; other states range from $5 to $30+. Expedited state processing fees (where available) are also passed through at cost. We quote all state fees upfront before you commit.
Every apostille order gets a live status tracker that shows exactly where your document is in the process: Received → Notarized → Submitted to SOS → Processing → Completed → Shipped. Your notary updates the status at each stage. You receive notification when the status changes — no calling in for updates, no mystery about where things stand.
